About

Introduction

My relationship with K-dramas began towards the end of 2005 with the drama Full House. While I enjoyed the show and became a fan of Bi, despite some major eye rolling and reactions along the lines of “what the heck are they wearing?!” and “they’re fighting, again?!”, I was yet to be taken in by K-dramas as a whole. However, it was only a few short months later that a little show called My Girl came along and took me on a whirlwind ride to K-drama land.

About this blog

Mukgu what now?

The term “mukgufied” originated from the K-drama My Girl, in which the protagonist’s nickname was Mukgu and hence, fans of the show referred to themselves as being mukgufied.

In 2006, I started to unleash my nonsensical ramblings blog officially and the primary reason for that crazy idea was My Girl. And so, when it came time to think of a name for the blog, it was only appropriate to call it “mukgufied.” However, over time, the central focus on all things My Girl lessened and Mukgufied became a place for me to talk about anything under the Korean/Asian entertainment umbrella.

Recently, when I became inspired to start blogging again, I thought about whether or not I should create an entirely new site with a new name and all. After mulling over that for some time, I’ve decided to stick with Mukgufied because it does make me a little sad to “abandon” it. Yeah, I’m sentimental like that. (Heh.)

Out of all places, why a “porch”?

There are a couple of things you should know about me. I am lazy. I love to eat and sleep. One of my favorite hobbies (if you can call it that) is lazing around, doing whatever it is that I feel like doing. And what better place to laze around and soak in the warm sunlight than on a nice porch, facing a small garden with a little fish pond… *gazes off into space and daydreams*

Huh? What? Oh sorry. Where was I? Oh yes, the meaning behind the “porch”. The porch is also a nod to one of my favorite dramas Hotaru no Hikari. *empties beer can*

Another thing that you should know is that I’m no writer, even in the most casual sense of the word. Honestly, there was a time in my life when I despised writing. For example, when I was in college, you know what criteria I used to choose my classes? I’d go to the first day of class, take a look at the syllabus, and if the assignments had two or more essays, then I’d drop it. No kidding. Unless of course, if the class was required, then I’d take it with dread. So forgive me for the ramblings, the run-on sentences, and the grammar/syntax mistakes that you come across on this blog.

Why blog?

I grew up watching TVB series, so television dramas and I go way back. However, almost all of my friends in Real Life do not share my excitement and enjoyment of Asian dramas; some wouldn’t touch K-dramas even with a ten-foot pole. And the one close friend who isn’t averse to Asian dramas doesn’t follow them with the same fervor that I do. So basically, I rarely have anyone to talk to and spazz with about the shows that I’m watching. Thus, in a sense, this place is an outlet for me to express my opinion, to rant and rave, and to squee all the way to town and back.

Also, as I grow older and expand my reading list to include books unrelated to academia, I’ve developed an admiration for language and words in general. However, in truth, when it comes to writing in any form, I tend to struggle because I’m not one of those individuals who have a way with words. Thus, I have mad respect for talented writers who make writing seem so effortless, whose eloquence and wit inspire me to read and practice more in order to become better at writing. And that is another reason as to why I’m in this blogging business, polluting adding to the already crowded blogosphere.

Beyond all that, my reason for blogging is simply because K-dramas is fun to watch and that fun is exponentially greater when there’s another person (people) with whom you can snark and spazz.

So kick off your shoes, sit back, and relax. And if we feel like it, we can also play a game of gorogorogoro. *rolls around on floor*

I hope you enjoy your visit here at Doozy’s Porch!
