What Have I Been Doing Lately?

Well, as you can obviously tell, not blogging. I’ve come to the realization that maintaining a blog is harder than I thought, especially when there isn’t really any interesting topic to write about. So really, props to all those bloggers out there who are able to provide us with insightful and well-written entries on a regular basis. (I’m particularly complimenting dramabeans.com. I love javabeans’ blog. Why? If you visit the site, then well, you’ll know why.)

Anyway, back to the main topic. What have I been doing? Trying to keep a healthy balance between schoolwork and play (i.e., watching k-dramas). Here’s a summary of what I’ve seen and am currently following.

Entering my list of all-time favorite k-dramas (to my surprise) is a little show called Coffee Prince.

In the beginning, when news of the drama and the cast were announced, I wasn’t really interested mainly because of the cast. I liked Gong Yoo in the movie She’s On Duty with Kim Sun Ah but the ridiculousness of One Fine Day kinda erase any positive associations I had with him. Regarding Yoon Eun Hye, she was good for a newcomer in Goong; the show was entertaining, sometimes draggy, but overall, I liked it. My point here is that I was indifferent to the main cast so it was one of those “check it out only if it gets praises” kind of shows for me. And now, looking back, I’m grateful that javabeans chose to write summaries for Coffee Prince because it was through her summaries that made me go, “Huh, this sounds interesting. Perhaps, this is something that I might enjoy.” And seventeen “cups” later, I did more than enjoy it; I loved it, from the music and cinematography to the solid acting and chemistry among all cast members. Now that it’s over, I’m gonna really miss looking forward to and checking on dramabeans.com for updates every Monday and Tuesday nights, downloading the episodes whenever I had time, and anticipating the English subtitles. Ah, good times.

Currently, I’m watching Bad Couple and so far, I like it a lot. My question, as I watch this drama, is: Where can I find a man like Gi Chan? Where?! More on this later when I finish the show.

I also checked out Get Karl, Oh Soo Jung. I watched episode one because I was bored and had nothing better to do. In my opinion, the episode was “bleh.” It had its entertaining moments but those weren’t enough to reel me in.

So you might be wondering (or not) why I haven’t talked much about Time Between Wolf and Dog? I saw the first episode a few weeks ago and up until now, that is the only one that I’ve watched because to my surprise, I didn’t really enjoy it and found it to be boring. Maybe having seen just one episode isn’t enough for me to say that I don’t like the series and should stop following it. People have said that it gets better with each episode so I should really watch a couple more episodes and decide then. I mean, it has one of my favorite girls Nam Sang Mi and the cute Lee Jun Ki in it, but why am I still not that interested?

I also watched an episode or two of Thank You every now and then. It’s good but I’m not entirely hooked on it. I’ll get around to finishing it when there’s nothing else to watch.

There are two shows that I really want to watch, and they are Que Sera Sera and Flowers For My Life. Hopefully, I can get the episodes to download without any technical difficulties.

Oh man, this blog entry took a long time for me to write. I’m getting rusty with my writing and spelling skills. They weren’t great to start with but dang, a hour plus to get my thoughts together and come up with this entry is a little too long, which reminds me about why I started blogging last year. One reason was, of course, My Girl but the other reason was because I was writing something and I had forgotten how to spell “backpack.” Along the same line, the other day, I was chatting with a friend of mine online and I misspelled “feeble.” Those are simple words, right? So, I need to write and read more before I forget important concepts like grammar and syntax, you know, the wonderful stuff college English classes are made of.

Thanks for reading!

It’s Here!

1168567791nis201ss0.jpg

What’s here? My highly anticipated drama Time Between Wolf and Dog. After the uncertainty of which network would air the drama and the changing of airing dates, it finally premiered on July 18th on MBC. At long last! However, with any high expectation, especially because of what happened with Witch Amusement, I’m a little worried that this drama is going to disappoint. Thankfully, though, initial reactions to the first and second episodes are generally good so my excitement is still going strong. I’m going to watch the first episode soon and hopefully, it’s good. Has anyone seen it yet? Do you like it?

Long Time No Blog

It’s been awhile since my last entry, hasn’t it? When school began back in May, I told myself that I would put off watching k-dramas for a year so that I could focus on my studies. That, in turn, would leave me with very little to blog about and plus, time is a luxury for me so that’s why there hasn’t been any new site update. Well, although school is still crazy and having enough time to sleep and eat is a hard task, I’ve come to realize that vowing to give up k-dramas completely and actually being able to do it are two different things. Perhaps, the plan to stop watching them altogether was too ambitious for me. The drama world is the fun and fantastical world where I can get away from and momentarily forget about the stress and unhappiness of everyday life.

In order to attend this program, I had to move far away from home to another city and am feeling homesick almost everyday. Living in a new environment and trying to adapt to it while at the same time, missing my family and friends like crazy makes the process all the more difficult. And if watching an episode of a drama that I enjoy makes me feel better, how could I give up something that brings me so much joy and help the time pass by a little quicker, right? Right.

And so, here I am, back to blogging, downloading, watching, and subtitling.

Currently watching

The two shows that I’m following at the moment are Bad Couple and the recently premiered Coffee Prince.

I’m also trying to catch up on Thank You because it comes highly recommended by many people. However, given the genre that the drama is in, I’m probably not going to be finishing it soon since I need comedy and light entertainment more than the heavy melodrama in Thank You.

I’ve heard and read alot of great things about Flowers for My Life (mainly from javabeans’ blog). This one, I’m saving to marathon when the subtitle project is complete.

Hello

Yup, nursing school began on Monday and to say the least, I’m very overwhelmed and stressed. Well, it’s not like it’s unexpected since the program is three years compacted into one. I have to wake up before sunrise and there’s barely enough time to eat and sleep.

I’m sad that I can’t blog as often as before since blogging and talking about k-drama and entertainment with people who share the same interest is fun. I’ll still check the blog and respond to comments and questions but updates/new entries will be infrequent. Also, if you come across any good new shows or interesting entertainment tibits, please do share them with me using the comment option on this entry or the shoutbox feature. Thanks in advance.

In the mean time, there are a gazillion of entertainment blogs out there for your reading pleasure. Some are excellent, while others are… Anyway, the good ones are on the side, under “blogroll.” Enjoy!

p.s. Hi chel and Jill! Thanks for dropping by and for the warm wish.

Lee Dong Wook Update

According to the latest drama news, Lee Dong Wook will no longer be leading the upcoming SBS drama Bad Couple. Instead, Park Sang Min will take over the role. (I just read other news which state that PSM isn’t the actor who will replace LDW, but I’m not sure.)

Special thanks to yeohweping for the info

Although I didn’t know who the leading actress would be, I was looking forward to this drama because of LDW. Is he busy with filming new cfs or traveling to other countries for promotional activities? Apparently, I read from soompi.com that the reason LDW pulled out of the project was because the script/storyline of the drama doesn’t allow him much room and screen time to demonstrate his ability. I guess his management company tried to negotiate with the production company but they wouldn’t budge; hence, he’s not going to be working on Bad Couple.

Secondly, Dong Wook was involved in a “scandal” with Hyun Young (his co-star in The Strongest Romance) over something that he said jokingly when the cast and crew of the movie went out for drinks. A fellow Mukgu-er gave me the low down of said incident and really, what he said wasn’t that big of a deal; it just got blown way out of proportion. DW did apologized for his action, which again, I don’t think was that serious. However, he took responsibility for it and I admire him for that.

Dong Wook sshi, we hope you feel better soon! We will wait patiently for your next project.

I love his new haircut! It really makes him look younger and less feminine.

Men of the Hour

So Ji Sub, whose popularity soared after starring in I’m Sorry, I Love You (MISA), is officially back from his army duty after two years! I bet his fans are ecstatic that the long wait is over.

Look at the number of people that came out to welcome him back!

To commemorate SJS’s big day, here’s one of my favorite OST songs.

MISA OST – “Snowflower” by Park Hyo Shin

Lee Jung Jin, who was in the drama Love Story in Harvard and the movie Once Upon A Time in High School, also returned from the army. However, in contrast, at his welcome back reception, one can almost hear crickets chirping in the background.

Kinda sad, if you ask me. But tis the reality of show business; some celebrities have more fans and are more popular while others aren’t. Although, I prefer SJS since he’s the more talented actor, I’m mentioning LJJ here as well just to give him a bit of attention because I feel bad for him.

Surgeon Bong Dal Hee

sbdh.jpg
From left to right: Lee Yo Won, Kim Ming Joon, Oh Yoon Ah, Lee Bum Soo

A 16-episode drama that was extended to 18 episodes due to its high ratings. Apparently, it is very loosely inspired by the US tv show Grey’s Anatomy, based on its plotline (surgical interns in a prestigious hospital) and character setup (a female surgeon as the protagonist). I say “loosely” because Surgeon Bong Dal Hee is a much better show, with alot more heart and likeable characters compared to Grey’s Anatomy.

Initially, I wasn’t going to follow this drama because the only cast member that I like and am familiar with is Oh Yoon Ah. However, my subbing teammates were gushing over it so I decided to check it out since I trust their tastes. And now more than halfway through the series, boy, am I glad that I did because I love this show!

It’s been awhile since I cried while watching tv dramas, mostly because it takes alot to get my tear duct going. However, this show sure turned on the waterworks in episode 9. It was, to say the least, very sad. While watching this episode, I was reminded of the time when I saw the Korean movie called Sad Movie (the beginning to middle part) and was wondering why it was given that title, until the middle to the end part of the movie when the storyline’s rug is pulled out suddenly while you’re standing on it and as you’re falling backward from the suddenness of it all, you’re like, “What the hell just happened?”

As depressing as it was, I’m glad that the writer followed up on that particular subplot because it was very touching and also because the situation and its aftermath gave Dal Hee a chance to reflect and re-evaluate why she wants to be a doctor so badly, despite her poor health condition and her mom’s objection.

I’m on ep. 12 right now and my heart goes out to Dr. Ahn (Lee Bum Soo). Okay, so he screams at people most of the time but once you get to know him, you’ll see that he’s caring and devoted. And of course, he’s a great surgeon, knowledge-wise and human compasion-wise.

I like the romantic pairings in here, as well. The supporting cast is also likeable, especially Dr. Park, who cracks me up in almost every scene.

If you’re looking for something good to watch, give this one a try.

Old or New?

New banner!

With the size reduction of the new banner, I find that designing new ones is a little easier. And me with my elementary photoshop skill, I appreciate that.

I like the previous banner too, as it features one of my favorite pictures of one of my favorite men, Song Il Gook. However, I created the new banner because a fellow k-drama watcher said that the blog isn’t really “mukgu-fied” without snow. Also, I feel bad for disappointing those who voted for the original layout by (temporarily?) switching to this one. So there it is. Although the snow theme might be a bit out of place since summer is approaching, who cares, right? Here at Mukgu-fied, it “snows” all year-round. But if it gets too cold in here and I miss Mr. Song, then you’ll see his sexy and smoking hot side profile again. Heh.

Anyway…

Thus far, the number of people who like the old layout is about the same as those who prefer the new design. Some like the old one because of the huge LDH banner and its colorful and distinctive look while others said that the new template looks cleaner and more artsy. (Thank you everyone for your input.) As for me, I like both.

I like the Blogger one because Blogger is more user-friendly and easier to navigate whereas WordPress has a lot more options, which can be positive but also negative because things aren’t where I expect them to be when I need them. One of the options in WordPress that I like is being able to password-protect certain entries. Also, there are more layout designs to choose from in WordPress.

One thing that I don’t like about WordPress is that I can’t embed music files from imeem and radioblogclub. Well, actually two things. The second dislike is that I can’t edit the template’s code unless I purchase the CSS upgrade. In contrast, in Blogger, I can edit to my heart’s content, although that’s not necessarily a good thing because heaven knows I’ve made a mess of things several times before.

Oh, one more thing. The shoutbox is still there, but it’s now a link on the sidebar, which if you click on it, the shoutbox will pop open in a new page.

To sum up, I think what I’ll end up doing is post new entries here for a while to see how I like it and use the one at Blogger for media files that aren’t allowed in WordPress. So the Blogger isn’t going anywhere, for those who are concerned about it disappearing from the blog world.

Hmm… Come to think of it, there are quite a few changes. So it’s understandable that several people don’t like this layout. Nonetheless, please bear with me, everyone. :)

Testing to see if this works. If it does, woo hoo!
